Today was my first day back after summer. We are starting a new project which is more arty than previous ones. We have to make a 3D sculpture or object using fine art photography. For this project we will be using drawing books instead of folders.

I find this image has a strong emotional impact on me and is quite scary. When I see it I think of someone being tortured and tied up. I think it being in black and white exaggerates this emotional impact. |
Our first task was to find the definition of fine art photography, summarise it in our own words and then write it on a document along with some examples of fine art. The pictures which came up on google images when you wrote it in were pictures of mainly humans often naked and looking disturbed, upset or trying to hide themselves. They also tended to be in black and white. I think this is to emphasise the emotional impact you have when you look at them. We then did some research into a specific artist of the topic. I researched Anthony Gormley, the designer of the Angel of the North.

After lunch we did some photography. Our task was to photograph things, around the school grounds that we thought of when we heard the word control, so fences, locks, teachers, walls etc.. We got to use the new cameras. They were really good. The only problem I had was sometimes I found it hard to focus on objects too close. I probably Should of changed the setting to macro mode or something. I got quite a few good shots though. My best ones were probably one showing the shadow of a person and the shadows lots of window frames. I thought it was good because it wasn't a normal view that a 'tourist' might take and it isn't quite clear what it is at first glance. It also repesents the theme of control because its a large structure which could be used to hold people back. Another photo I liked, that I took, was on where the camera is looking through a fence. I like this one because the fence being in focus and the background not looks very professional and also it represents the theme because fences stop people going places.
When we got back we edited them on photoshop. There was lots of different tools you could do adjust and improve your photos. The main ones I used were crop, contrast, grayscale and exposure.
I also used an effect on a couple of my photos called Poster effect or something which makes your photo a lot simpler by making it just made out of a few layers of colour. This effect makes it look cartoony and a pit like old fashioned posters.
